logo-iowa-state-patrolCLEAR LAKE – A two-car accident sent two Sheffield residents to Mercy hospital Tuesday night after a Clear Lake woman ran a red light.

According to a report from the Iowa State Patrol, a 2000 Chevy Impala driven by 60-year-old Larry Paul Hirsch of Sheffield was exiting the off-ramp from Interstate 35 and then stopped for a red light. He then attempted to make a left turn through a green light when his vehicle stalled. He was able to quickly re-start the vehicle and continue through the green light when his vehicle was struck by a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am driven by 23-year-old Alissa Rae Bergman of Clear Lake. Police say she ran a red light.

Hirsch and his passenger, 49-year-old Polly Ann Kothenbeutel of Sheffield were injured and transported to Mercy Hospital in Mason City with undisclosed injuries.
