DES MOINES – He called himself Kiowa Gordon, an actor in the popular “Twilight” movies, as he lured teen girls into precarious situations and performed backflips and signed autographs in an Iowa school’s cafeteria before he was stopped by police.
Police in Jasper county were alerted after 33-year-old David Lavera attempted to abduct a teen this past June. The family of a 14-year-old girl called police after discovering that the teen had gone to meet Lavera, whom she had been trading messages with over the internet. Just minutes later, police spotted Lavera and placed him under arrest. Lavera had told the teen he was an actor in the Twilight movies, beloved by many teens. The girl had gotten into his vehicle on her own and a relative had gotten to her before police arrived and made her get out of the vehicle. Police searched Lavera’s car and found a long knife. Earlier, he had been at two Newton, Iowa schools posing as the actor and performing acrobatic stunts that wowed the teens who were watching.
Lacera later admitted to touching the teen girl on her private parts after asking her to meet him in a park without underwear on. He is also accused of filming a teen using the bathroom and uploading the video to his laptop and also illegal acts with 12-year-old and 13-year-old girls. He was charged in Jasper county court with sexual exploitation of a minor, lascivious acts with a minor, carrying a knife over 8 inches long, invasion of privacy, and sexual abuse.
U.S. Marshalls have taken Lavera into custody and placed him in the Polk County Jail. He faces the state charges – to which he pled not guilty – as well as new federal child pornography charges. He will be in federal court later this month.
