WORTH – CERRO GORDO BORDER – A Worth county woman was hospitalized after a head-on accident involving her car and a semi-truck.
The Iowa State Patrol said that at about 4:10 PM, 53-year-old Val Stevens was northbound on Highway 65 near 340th Street when for unknown reasons her 2010 Chevy Malibu crossed the center line and collided head-on with a semi-truck driven by 43-year-old Douglass Madison of Clarksgrove, Minnesota. Madison took to the shoulder to avoid impact but was unable to avoid the collision.
Air Med was launched but was not able to land due to too many wires around. Stevens was rescued by the jaws of life and transported to Mercy Hospital in Mason by Ambulance. She had broken bones and is being sent to Iowa City to recover.
Traffic was being detoured through Manly to the east and around gravels to the west. Affordable Towing was called to haul heavily-damaged Malibu away.
