Op-ed: Supervisor candidate Nelson “always has his eye on the larger picture”

From Raymond MacIsaac, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada –

In most cases, elections are a time to choose a politician to represent you. However, every once in a while, you have an opportunity to elect a real leader. In the election for county supervisor in District 2, such an opportunity has presented itself.

I met Doug Nelson over 10 years ago through our involvement in Toastmasters, an international organization committed to training speakers and leaders. We eventually served as district governors at the same time. Doug led all of the Toastmasters groups in Iowa, while I led all of groups in Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario.

Our time as district leaders was fraught with challenges, including the largest restructuring of the organization in its 80 plus year history, which accompanied the day-to-day operation of our large districts. During this time, I was able to witness Doug’s leadership in action. He is methodical, pragmatic and organized. I learned from Doug that before you can resolve a problem, you need to understand it from every perspective. I also learned that you have to do it quickly and fairly, before an issue had a chance to fester.

Doug Nelson’s leadership made Toastmasters in Iowa a stronger organization and personally made me a better leader. I believe the citizens of District 2 have an excellent opportunity to elect a leader for county supervisor, instead of just another politician.

If you want to elect a supervisor who strives to see issues from your perspective, who works with people to find the best solutions, and who always has his eye on the larger picture, then Doug Nelson is your candidate.

I saw someone mentioned assessments somewhere. I thought this might be helpful.

Hey this one was over before it all got started up, Gary Blodgett raise all that big money for the Callahan kid. Use to work for old doc, down to the Capitol. Look how lucky this Callahan is, Drurys in there to, the Democrat’s vote gets split two way. Put a fork in this one.

Our church prayer group did a special prayer chain to make sure this libtard lost. In the primary I mean. Well the good Lord answered our prayers, this Nelson did lose, he did. Ok well what do you know, he comes back. So we are back to praying he will not get past us this time. We are back to our prayers and he will lose, God willing. We love Jesus and the Lord our father, we don’t want any libtards in there.

You sound like a real Christian. Since when did churches get involved in politics? Disgusting.

@JMO-I agree with you. Religion has no business in politics. Vote for whoever you want but keep your church out of it.

Sounds like a wonderful jesture to me….. something Jeebus would no doubt approve. Now pray for the gays to be smitten, the poor to be cast into the fire and the lame to be stoned. You go girl!

@ Otis, oh no you don’t we don’t pray for no lame people get stoned, no poor get burned up, your lying. We do not like gay’s, God says men do not lay with men. The Lord will burn them up later read the bible you can see the light. We have a right to our ways, that is why we want to keep communist’s off of our Board of Supervisers. I will pray for you to, you sound like your a lost soul.

I would consider it a privilege to get burned up by the Lord. Incineration would probably be one of the better demises a soul could have. Getting tortured by hideous demons, hags, witches, and all sorts of deformed and torturous creatures however, would be far worse. The Demon Haunted Worlds of Buddhist cosmology await…so if you keep pushing false views, and haven’t fixed your mind on the clear light of reality…fasten your seat belts: the Exorcist will seem like a walk in the park

This daisycutter prayer chain weirdo has been trying to reinforce her own will by way of this fake superstitious prayer chain bullarky for several elections…including last fall. She’s a witch doctor at best. Ignore her. A just and compassionate God doesn’t listen to such supplications and implorations. She’s just trying to scare people by tapping into the unknown. Hoodoo Voodoo Menudoo Bulldoodoo.

Even though this gentleman is from Canada and cannot vote in the election he has seen Doug in action and was impressed enough with Doug’s leadership skills that he wanted to to let our community know about it. This actually impresses me more than if it was someone right here in the community. This gentleman has no stake in the election yet he feels strong enough about Doug’s skills to write this article. I still do not know who I am going to vote for but info like this helps make the decision.

@Iowa Viking-Come on now. It is pretty obvious he is a friends of Doug’s. What do you think he would do, bad mouth him? Of course he is going to rave about him. It is called supporting your buddy. I don’t have a stake in the election and am glad to see Doug going after it just because I think diversity is good. However, I have seen several of his comments and he is pretty far to the left for me. He is trying not to show it , but I remember.

I would agree, he is way far left but in my opinion his opponent way too far right, which of these is the lesser of the two evils? That is the question I am trying to answer for myself. It’s to bad there is not a candidate more towards the middle. One that would, in my opinion, represent a larger group of the people. Your thoughts LVS?

@Viking-It is to bad that it takes so much money to run that there just are not any independents that are will to do it. We are always saddled with only the two major party’s. I guess it doesn’t matter to much at this level. However, it made a huge difference here in Mason City with the local elections. Eric the drunk used all of his Republican buddy’s at the country club and in the local media to grease the skids for him. I guess you just pick the one you like best.

@Viking (cont.)- I personally do not think I could vote for a Democrat right now just because of what they have done to this country in the last six years. The socialist, liberals got control and I think we will feel the effects of Obama’s policy’s and lack of leadership for years. I would not sign up for any more of that. People have not even seen the tip of the iceberg yet on Obamacare. Wait until they don’t get their rebates on Obamacare this year, then watch out.

“Supporting your buddy”…hmmm. Is that like when Gary Hugi drafted up his own editorial letters of support and gave them to various people in the community for them to sign? Is that the same as “supporting thy buddy”?

It doesn’t matter. It just doesn’t. You could be Captain Kangaroo (may Bob Keeshan RIP) and if Gary Blodgett thinks you could do him some favors, YOU’RE IN!

This is all it takes, folks. Is anyone paying attention?

LVS, I know you respect the Blodgetts but do you honestly think this is right? Or is it just the thing that’s going on in every election?

While I don’t know Doug personally, if what he wrote is true, I would concur. And I definitely agree that Casey Callanan won’t do anyone anygood but the feel good insider group up at Clear Lake City Hall…and of course Snyder Construction and a few others…Mckinness Excavating etc. 3 votes are still coming from my household.

But the unfortunate byproduct of democracy is of course the will (or apathy) of the people in the given area it supposedly represents. If the people are quality and good, the rules and reps will be also. In this region, a type of brain stunting conformity occurs, where typical would-be politicians follow the non-thinking brainless mantra of church, family, military, patriotism to easy political victories. What suffers? Well about everything. Intellectuals are driven away.

But then again, I forgot John Drury is running as an Independent. I’ll have to keep my mind open on this. Hopefully I’ll get to compare and contrast their positions in the newspaper soon.

Why is a guy from Canada trying to tell us who to vote for. Can’t Nelson find anyone local to support him?
