DES MOINES – Today, July 30, 2014, marks three years since the murder of Bill Wood and the disappearance of Kay Wood.
On Saturday, July 30, 2011 the Warren County Fire Department responded to a house fire at 2698 R63 in rural Warren County. When they arrived on scene, they found the home fully engulfed in flames.
Once the fire was knocked down and upon further investigation, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office discovered the home owners could not be located. This prompted the Sheriff’s Office to request assistance from the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation on a missing persons report.
During an examination of the fire scene, fire investigators found one person deceased in the home. After an autopsy was performed by the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner in Ankeny, it was determined the body found in the fire was that of 79 year old Bill Wood. The manner of death was certified as homicide caused by multiple gunshot wounds. Thereafter, the search for his wife, 72 year old, Kay Wood, continued.
To this day, law enforcement officials continue to request any information on a “person of interest” who may have information on the disappearance and whereabouts of Kaidena “Kay” Wood. The “Person of Interest” was last seen near the Wood’s 2009 red Chevrolet Silverado pickup in Kansas City. The vehicle was found at the Cordillera Ranch Apartments at 8381 North Donnelly Ave in Kansas City, Missouri on Sunday, July 31st, 2011, and was turned over to the DCI Crime Lab.
The “Person of Interest” is described as a White Male in his late 40s to early 60s, 6’2”-6’6” tall, with a slender build and short, gray and white hair. Anyone with information about this person of interest and/or the disappearance and whereabouts of Kay Wood is asked to contact your local law enforcement agency.
There is an $8,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest. Special Agents with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, along with the Warren County Sheriff’s Office and other agencies, continues to follow up on all leads in this case.
