Health department to offer food safety course

MASON CITY – The Cerro Gordo County Department of Public Health will offer a ServSafe Certification class from 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 in the Liberty Room at Mohawk Square in Mason City. The deadline to register for the class is Friday, February 14, 2014.

The class was created by the National Restaurant Association with the purpose of educating restaurant owners, supervisors, managers and employees about the dangers of food-borne illnesses and how to avoid them. Since the Health Department started offering the class in 1998, 849 individuals have successfully completed the class and are now certified.

The course focuses on the foodservice leader’s role in measuring risks, setting policies and training and supervising employees. Those who successfully complete the course and examination will receive a certificate.
