MASON CITY – There will be no demolition derby Saturday night at the North Iowa Fair.

“Please be aware that the Demolition Derby has been CANCELLED. The rain has been steady on the track all day and we have concerns for the safety of our drivers,” the North Iowa Fair posted after 5 PM Saturday evening via social media.

Earlier Saturday, the North Iowa Events Center posted via social media: “Demo Derby will go on! Rainy days don’t mean much to our drivers!”

Floyd county fair is having theirs Saturday night at 6pm. 10 dollar admission for age 12 and older. Under 5 is free. Fireworks to follow completion of the derby.

20 minutes later the sun came out. There were cars lined up waiting to get.Couldn’t believe it. I know alot of people were pissed off.

i think thats about as dumb as it gets. the wetter the track is, the less traction the cars will have. less speed means a safer derby. even so, they can scrap off some of the mud if needed. doesnt add up to me. except more reason NOT to attend the north Iowa fairgrounds.

Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

The fairgrounds stopped DOING long ago.
