NIT – Readers have advised of phone calls from unknown subjects that are perpetrating a scam that includes the threat of arrest.
Some Iowa law enforcement have also been alerted to this scam. Calls are being made from an unknown source, warning those answering the phone that he or she owes an outstanding debt and a warrant will be issued for their arrest if they don’t forward money to someone right away.
NIT is told that it is rare for law enforcement to cold call anyone, even if they have unpaid debts or even fines.
If you receive a phone call like this, call local law enforcement and describe the call and save the number to turn in, as well.
You can get a phone call recorder app from your phone and record the call also.
