MASON CITY – A legislative forum for state senators and representatives was held Thursday morning at the 1st Citizens Bank in Mason City.
Among those in attendance were Representative Sharon Steckman, Senator Amanda Reagan, and Senator Lynda Upmeyer, among other elected officials. Former representative Bill Schickel helped do the introductions.
Elderbridge organized the event.
Several important legislative topics were discussed, most relating to seniors. Among the topics covered and responded to by legislators were: an elder abuse law, a home-based services waiver, sex offenders in nursing homes, basic funding for Iowa Department of Aging, and a uniform power of attorney act.
Senator Amanda Ragan expressed concern over who is placed on Iowa’s sex offender list and making sure that convicted sex offenders of sex crimes are kept away from folks but wanted to be sure that others convicted of lesser crimes are treated fairly.

Matt, saw you at our event today. Thank you for coming!
We wondered, do you ever get a break? Between NIT and your campaign it just seems like you would never get a rest. Can’t believe you can do all this, we agreed! (By the way, keep up the great work and I’m pretty sure you will be a council member).
