Four challengers to Bookmeyer “team” now endorsed by AFSCME labor union

DES MOINES – AFSCME Iowa Council 61 (American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees) PEOPLE Committee is proud to announce that it has endorsed Max Weaver for Mayor and Jodi Draper and Leonard Foster for city council in Mason City.

Earlier in October, the AFSCME Iowa Council 61 PEOPLE Committee announced its endorsement of Matt Marquardt for city council.

“Max Weaver, Jodi Draper, Leonard Foster, and Matt Marquardt value the work done public employees and understand the importance of the services they provide. Our members are proud to support their campaigns,” said AFSCME Iowa Council 61 President Danny Homan.

AFSCME is known for its political action program which is financed with voluntary contributions. The program supplies grassroots volunteers for AFSCME-endorsed candidates.

In Cerro Gordo County, AFSCME Iowa Council 61 represents city employees in Mason City, state employees, child care providers, and home care providers.

In Iowa, AFSCME Iowa Council 61 represents 40,000 public employees including law enforcement and correctional officers, firefighters, mental health workers, professional school staff, emergency responders, and many other workers.

“I’m proud to see that the AFSCME Iowa Council 61 recognizes that these four candidates care about our city employees,” Matt Marquardt said Thursday. “I have been advocating for three years for their fair treatment and to restore order at City Hall. That is one of the reasons I decided to become a candidate for City Council. I am anxious for election day and I am confident the people of Mason City will make the right choices on their ballots.”

Nice job guys.

HA! Try breaking that union now!! If the incumbants can’t do it in 4 years, then it can’t be done.

Why do you want to break the union?

Congrats everyone 🙂

Congratulations to all of you. I think this came about because of the meeting the other night. I noticed several union people in the audience. Even though I am not a union guy I have several very close friends that are and I respect and appreciate what they do. I am not in favor of the fat cat union.bosses

LVS unions really can help the working man BUT, you are right, the big unions squeeze the working man and the employers equally. They are only out for their own gain. This endorsement,IMO, will hurt the challengers.

Endorsed by AFSCME?

All the more reason to vote for the incumbents.

AF-SCAM Lining their own pockets at the expense of their members.

Why do you say that?

I don’t want any public union negotiating with public officials who also use their political clout to shape the results of elections. One the one hand the employee is effectively getting two bites at the public apple; something denied to the taxpayer stuck paying the bills.
If you are still in doubt just take a look at the mess in Illinois – it fosters rampant corruption and back door deals and the taxpayers are getting hosed big time.

Unions have always been involved in elections. That is what they do. They try to influence to help their membership. My opinion is that the ball is starting to swing the other way. Company’s are making more and more profits and working people are making less and less. I would say in the next few years you will see more unions formed. Especially as more and more people are forced on to Obamacare and they see the union people are not. If they could just get rid of the mob people at the top and give the unions back to the people they would do better.

For sure and most deserving
