MASON CITY – Freaky nice winter weather likely due to global warming or sheer luck is enabling Mason City’s Highland Golf Course to open for business today, they announced.

According to an announcement from Highland Golf Course:

“That is right starting (Monday) at 10 AM Highland Park Golf Course will be open for paid members and paid guests. Cart path 1 thru 5 and open completely on the back to carts. Please stay 50 feet or near the base of the greens when parking carts. We will be doing daily assessments of the course based on the weather. We are excited to have some bonus days in February to play golf. Remember to read and follow all rules and laws on the golf course. Signs will be posted on first tee and gate to back 9 disciplinary actions will be in forced to those that disregard the rules or do not check in at the club house.”

Winter in North Iowa is typically brutal.  Folks normally endure strong, whipping winds, sub-zero wind chills, black ice, snow above their ankles.  Not in 2024, however.  The forecast for this week is calling for 50s up to possibly 70s in daytime temperatures, with little chance of precipitation.  Folks have been outside taking advantage of the heavenly weather, jogging, walking, biking, riding their motorcycles, and now, golfing.  The first official day of Spring is March 19, but to many, it seems like it is already here.
