MASON CITY – A man stopped two years ago for operating while intoxicated – with a child in the vehicle – is now serving two days in jail.
Richard Dean Thompson, 32, was stopped by Cerro Gordo County sheriff’s deputies on June 3rd, 2011 at 11:13 PM at 27th Avenue and South 24th Street in Clear Lake. Thompson was arrested for operating while intoxicated (1st offense) and child endangerment. The child in the vehicle belonged to a passenger.
Thompson registered 0.089 and 0.088 in two breathalyzer tests administered by a sheriff’s deputy a couple of hours later.
Thompson later plead guilty and was sentenced in December of 2012 to two days in jail and a $1,250 fine on the OWI charge. Judge Gregg Rosenbladt threw out a $625.00 fine and ordered two days in jail (served consecutively) on the child endangerment charge. Thompson still owes $2,000.35 in fines and fees to Iowa Courts.
