Bremer County, Iowa — Today, Special Agents with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) and Investigators with the Bremer County Sheriff’s Office arrested 59 year old Donna Ellison. Ellison was charged with Felonious Misconduct in Office and Theft in the 3rd Degree.
Ellison has been employed as the Bremer County Recorder since 1995.
In early December, 2012, Bremer County Officials requested the assistance of DCI in examining the suspected theft of funds from the County Recorder’s Office. After interviews with witnesses and an audit of office records, investigators determined that between May, 2012 and February, 2013 Ellison had taken approximately $524.75 from funds that were collected by the Recorder’s office. Additionally, investigators determined that Ellison had altered an office ledger and computer system to disguise her activity.
Ellison appeared before and judge Tuesday afternoon and was then released on her own recognizance.
