Unemployment drops to 7.8 percent

By Kevin G. Hall, McClatchy Newspapers –

WASHINGTON — Employers added 114,000 jobs in September and the unemployment rate tumbled sharply to 7.8 percent, the government said Friday in a closely watched jobs report just weeks away from presidential elections.

The employment numbers were in the ballpark of consensus forecasts, but the jobless rate fell three-tenths of a percentage point to 7.8 percent, going below where it stood when President Barack Obama took office. The administration has been criticized for an unemployment rate above 8 percent for the balance of the president’s term.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics revised upward earlier estimates for employment in July and August, saying there were an additional 86,000 jobs added over those two months. Combined with stronger manufacturing data, it adds to the sentiment that the economy is gaining steam, albeit still growing at a subpar rate.

Health care drove much of the growth in September, adding 44,000 jobs, while the labor-intensive manufacturing sector shed 16,000 jobs in the month.

Its just a false number that does not take into account the people that have given up looking and are no longer receiving benefits.

We need new jobs at the $65,000+ level. Most of the new jobs being created are at the $27,500- level. Our government needs to come up with a way to entice businesses to bring manufacturing jobs back to the USA. It may mean tax breaks for them, but we need to create jobs here ASAP and more jobs means more taxes being paid.

One step further Katie would be the imposition of tariffs on goods imported into the U.S. U.S. based companies would face higher tariffs for every displaced worker.

The World Trade Organization will complain, however, our country’s need to maintain it’s standard of living trumps any other trade concern. In other words, we should not be forced to compete with $2 an hour overseas wages. It will bankrupt us.

Finally, it is imperative that U.S. consumers begin to support U.S. workers, instead of sending it’s money overseas.

Yes, but examine the jobs that have opened up. You will see that most are paying far less than a few years ago. Especially locally.

With Obamas open border plan wages will drop even lower. We will look like Mexico in another 4 years. Why would a president give thousands of Illegals a free pass to come and work here? When we have 7.8% unemployment already. He wants to redistibute the wealth here. Ever notice how we never hear much about Valerie Garret. She is running the White House already. The U.S is already giving Mexico food stamps.

Well, this is a huge surprise. Who would have thought it would have come down just a month before the election. They must think we are as stupid as they are.
