MASON CITY, Iowa – Kika Greenlee (So., St. Louis Park, MN) recorded her fourth double-double of the season as the NIACC women’s basketball team topped Riverland Community College 78-54 on Wednesday night.
Greenlee’s 24 points and 10 rebounds led the Trojans in both categories. Three other Trojans scored at least 10 points. Jenna Morris (So., Radcliffe, IA) shot 6-for-11 from the field with 15 points and seven rebounds, while Brittany Robinson (So., Shellsburg, IA) had 11 points, seven rebounds, and six assists.
Sadie Pittman (So., Cape Girardeau, MO) added 10 points in the win, with eight of those coming in the second half.
The Trojans (now 5-3) won by almost the exact same score as the earlier matchup between the two teams on November 9 when NIACC won 78-53 in Austin.
NIACC never trailed during the game and jumped out to an early lead on the Blue Devils by scoring their first 12 points off of three-pointers. Morris and Greenlee both had 13 points in the first half, while defensively NIACC recorded 12 steals. NIACC led at halftime 40-28.
In the second half, the Trojans attacked the basket early and outscored Riverland 18-8 in the first eight minutes to put the game out of reach. The aggressive offense helped the Trojans shoot 15-for-27 (55.6%) in the second half.
At the same time, Riverland hit a cold spot and only shot 7-for-26 (27%). No one scored over six points in the second half for the Blue Devils.
The Trojans will travel to Mesabi Range Community and Technical College in Virginia, Minnesota for the Mesabi Range Classic on Friday. They will play Mesabi Range on Friday and Hibbing Community College on Saturday.
