December 1, 1934 – April 26, 2026

Patrick C Farrell, age 91, of Algona passed away on Sunday April 26, 2026 at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday April 29th at Divine Mercy Catholic Parish – St. Cecelia in Algona. Visitation will be 9:00 AM until service time Wednesday at the St. Cecelia Presentation Center. Burial will take place in St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery in Whittemore with military rites conducted by the U.S. Air Force and the Seely-Walsh American Legion Post #425 of Whittemore. Patrick’s services will be Live Streamed at https:www.youtube.com/live/mXCC0SFWXsM.

Patrick Charles Farrell, the son of John Henry “Pete” and Ethel E. (Hansen) Farrell, was born on December 1, 1934 at the McCreery Hospital in Whittemore. He spent his childhood in the Whittemore and Lotts Creek Iowa rural areas. After he graduated from the Presentation Academy in Whittemore in 1952, Patrick enlisted in the U.S. Air Force serving from 1952 – 1960. While in the service, his family moved to California and he joined them there after his military discharge where he found permanent employment with the Southern Union RR for his working career.

On November 13, 1962 Patrick was married to Virgie R. Woods of Oklahoma. She passed away on April 29, 1982. He was united in marriage to his second wife, Ann Sadauskas, on October 15, 1986. She passed away on July 10, 1993. He returned to Iowa on occasion, especially for PA Class of 1952 reunions. When he came back to help celebrate Aunt Helen Foley’s 90th Birthday in 1999, he decided three months later to leave the hustle and bustle of California (he didn’t need that kind of traffic!) and he moved back to live on South Heckert Street in Algona, Iowa.

Patrick was a member of St. Cecelia Catholic Church, Seely-Walsh American Legion, a long-time supporter of Alcoholics Anonymous, and a volunteer for the Salvation Army. He enjoyed following the Oakland Raiders, LA Dodgers (while they were based in California), playing cards, and fishing, especially for Walleyes and Northerns in Canada with Cousin Kenny Farrell of Whittemore. He never minded working outdoors, but only “endured” the Iowa winters and shoveling snow. Milky Way and Snickers were his favorite treats, and he enjoyed one of each (snack size) every night after eating a grilled cheese and hot chocolate supper at Good Sam.

Patrick was the youngest and the last living member of the Pete and Ethel Farrell family. Left to cherish Patrick’s memory are first cousins in California along with a few in the Emmetsburg and Fenton, Iowa areas; second cousins, Linda K. Farrell of Whittemore, Dan (Maureen) Elbert of Whittemore, Mick (Patty) Elbert of Algona, Karen (Randy) Rayhons of Ventura and Cindy (Keith) Lowe of Mason City; a special friend and neighbor, Barbara Adams and her family of Algona; and close friends, Don Frideres, Algona and Bobbie Kutschara of West Bend. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John Dennis and James Francis Farrell; aunts, uncles, cousins and other family members.

His relatives would like to extend a heartfelt “Thank You” to the entire staff at Good Samaritan Center in Algona where he has been a resident since December, 2023. He truly enjoyed the care, concern and listening time you extended to him and also the friendships he made with the employees. His comment of “Bump 1 and Bump 2” won’t soon be forgotten! Thank you, too, to the doctors and nurses at Kossuth Regional Health Center for the excellent care and compassion extended to him during the last few days of his life. Sincere appreciation is extended to Deacon Don McGuire and Deacon Dave Penton of Divine Mercy Parish for your prayers and words of comfort in his time of need.

The Lentz Funeral Home of Algona is serving the family.
