Joan Marie Hartwell Strickler, a north Iowa woman whose life began in Mason City and carried forward through family, community and the many relationships built over 92 years, has died.
Strickler was born April 14, 1934, in Mason City, the daughter of Leland Harold Hartwell and Ruth Marie Treloar Hartwell.
She passed away May 28, 2026, at Rehabilitation Center of Allison.
Joan’s long life connected her to generations of family and friends who knew her through the quiet, steady presence of someone who had seen decades of change in Iowa and carried her own story through them. Those who knew her will remember the personal moments, conversations and memories that shaped her life and made her special to the people closest to her.
Her passing marks the loss of another member of a generation whose lives helped shape families and communities across north Iowa.
