Mass of the Christian Burial for Max Dahlhauser will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Wednesday April 29th, at Divine Mercy Catholic Parish – Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in West Bend. Visitation will be at the church from 4 – 7 pm Tuesday April 28th, with a K of C rosary at 3:45 pm. Burial will take place in the West Bend Cemetery. Max’s funeral will be Live Streamed on the Lentz Funeral Home website https://www.hdezwebcast.com/show/max-dahlhauser.

Max Edward Dahlhauser, the son of Henry and Mildred (Piper) Dahlhauser, was born on September 28, 1941, in rural West Bend, Iowa. He attended SS Peter & Paul Catholic School through 8th grade and graduated from West Bend Community School in 1959. He was a lifelong member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church. Max was a member of the Knights of Columbus and served as Financial Secretary from 1973 to 1982 and Grand Knight from 1987 to 1989.

Max married Marjorie Haupert of Burt at St. John’s Catholic Church in Bancroft on October 14, 1967. To this union 4 children were born. Mark, Lynn, Michael, and Lisa. Max and Marjorie later divorced.

Max grew up working with his dad at Dahlhauser Bros. He bought the business in 1978 when Henry retired and operated the business until his retirement in May 2013. He was a member of the Iowa Blacksmiths and Weldor’s Association, serving on the board of directors for six years and as a past President. He was named Blacksmith of the Year in 1987.

Max proudly served his community as a volunteer firefighter for 29 years. He was Fire Chief from 1984 to 1986. He served on the West Bend City Council from 1976 to 1983 and was Mayor from 1986 to 1991. He was past President of the West Bend Chamber of Commerce. He was a part-time police officer for the City of West Bend in the early 1970s. He was awarded an Honorary Chapter FFA Degree in 2003.

Max spent many years on the pit crew for Leo Christensen’s 8-ball, racing in Algona, Jackson, Fairmont, and Spencer. He came out of retirement in the 2000s to go racing with Mike Jergens and the Flying Banana crew. He built his own snowplow in the 1960s and cleared snow for West Bend residents and businesses for many years. He bowled for several years at Lou’s Lanes and in tournaments in Iowa and Minnesota. One of his favorite hobbies was golfing at the West Bend Country Club since it opened in 1978. For many years, he could be found relaxing on the golf course on Tuesday afternoons at 4:00.

Max Edward Dahlhauser of West Bend, Iowa, passed away on April 26, 2026. He was 84 years old. Max is survived by his children Lynn Dahlhauser (Jim Reynolds) of Davenport, Michael Dahlhauser of Oskaloosa, and Lisa (Scott) Williams of Des Moines, step-granddaughter K’tiana Boutchee, his sister Betty (Brent) Sampson of Lincoln, NE, and brothers Tim Dahlhauser of West Bend, Gene (Diane) Dahlhauser of West Bend, and Charlie Dahlhauser of Algona, 7 nephews, and several great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Mark who was stillborn in 1968, his paternal grandparents Peter and Josephine Dahlhauser, and maternal grandparents Max and Nelle Piper.
