April 27, 1933 – April 12, 2026

Joan M. Vance, 92, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 12, 2026. She was born on April 27, 1933, in Mason City, to Lloyd Johnson and Leona Lemker, the eldest of two daughters.

Joan was raised in Mason City alongside her sister, Patsy, and attended local schools. She dedicated much of her life to caring for others, working for over 25 years as a nurse’s aide at Mercy Hospital. After retiring, she continued her calling in healthcare by providing in-home support through Amicare for a few years.

A devoted mother, Joan took great pride in raising her five children: Diane, Jerry, Teresa, Elizabeth, and Glen. She found her greatest joy in her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, with whom she cherished spending time. In later years she and her husband, Glen, enjoyed traveling to Arizona to visit their son, Glen. They loved the natural beauty of Arizona and were particularly fond of the Flagstaff and Sedona areas.

Joan had a creative spirit and enjoyed crafting and decorating her home. She also valued the friendships she built over the years, particularly through her bowling league, where she spent many enjoyable evenings with coworkers. She loved gathering with friends for meals at Pastime Gardens, always creating lasting memories.

Those grateful for sharing in her life include her children, Diane (Kim) Young, Clear Lake, Jerry Miller, Mason City, Teresa Vance, Mason City, Elizabeth Vance, Mason City, and Glen (Dakota) Vance, Peoria, AZ; 11 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren; as well as nieces and nephews and extended relatives.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Glen; parents, Lloyd Johnson and Leona Lemker; and sister and brother in law, Patsy (Dean) Johnson.

A funeral service will be held 10:30 am Thursday, April 16, 2026 at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St. NE., Mason City. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
