On June 14th, 2025, Jesus welcomed Marilyn with open arms into her heavenly home saying, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”

Marilyn Ray Truelson was born July 5, 1938 on a farm near Havelock, Iowa, to Raymond and Anna (Klein) Truelson. She was baptized on July 25, 1938 by Rev. Carl Hinrichs and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mallard on April 6, 1952 by Rev. Norris Crook.

Growing up, Marilyn helped on the farm and detasseled corn during the summer. After Marilyn’s family moved to the Brooks farm, north of Mallard, she had the joy of experiencing indoor plumbing for the first time in her life. Marilyn received her education in Havelock and graduated from Havelock High School in 1956. While in school, Marilyn enjoyed participating in basketball, softball, theater and chorus. Following high school she continued her education at Emmetsburg Junior College.

On May 4, 1958 Marilyn was united in marriage to Rodney J. Meyer at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mallard, Iowa. They were the first couple to be married in the new church. In 1961 Rodney left the USAF and he and Marilyn moved onto the family farm, where they spent the rest of their lives.

Marilyn and Rodney were blessed with four children. Marilyn was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She helped Rodney with all aspects of farming as well as gardening, canning, and raising chickens.

Marilyn was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she served in countless capacities. Her church was very important to her and she was active in the ladies guild, taught Sunday School and Bible School, and served on various committees. Rodney and Marilyn were Youth Counselors for several years. Marilyn will be remembered for all of the programs she developed for bridal showers and other life events celebrated at the church. Marilyn loved corresponding with family and friends, by sending cards, letters or simply a note to let them know she was thinking of them. She made countless calls to shut-ins to check on them and brighten their day. Marilyn enjoyed reading books, newspapers and especially poetry.

Marilyn passed away Saturday, June 14, 2025 at the Boone County Hospital in Boone, Iowa, at the age of 86. She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Anna Truelson; her husband, Rodney; and a brother, Raymond Truelson.
