INDEPENDENCE, IOWA – Law enforcement in this Northern Iowa county announced numerous recent arrests for week of April 13-19, 2025.
On Sunday, April 13, 2025 at approximately 2:10 am, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested David Allan Latham, 35, of Independence. Latham was charged with third or subsequent offense Possession of Controlled Substance (class D felony) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (simple misdemeanor). This arrest was made in the 2200 blk Iowa Avenue. The Buchanan County Sheriff’s K9 Unit assisted in this arrest.
On Sunday, April 13, 2025 at approximately 2:10 pm, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Randall Wade Cantrell, 57, of Oelwein. Cantrell was charged with third or subsequent offense Possession of Controlled Substance (class D felony), Driving While License Barred (aggravated misdemeanor), second offense Operating While Intoxicated/Impaired (aggravated misdemeanor), Eluding (serious misdemeanor) and cited for Speed Violation and Failure to Provide Proof of Insurance. This arrest was made following a traffic stop that was attempted near 100th Street (Hwy 281) and Jackson Avenue (Hwy 150). Cantrell continued driving and didn’t stop until reaching a residence in the 2600 block S Frederick Avenue in Oelwein. The Oelwein Police Department assisted in this incident.
On Monday, April 14, 2025 at approximately 10:40 pm, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Patricia Daun Nikki Moreno, 38, of Livermore. Moreno was charged with Driving While License Suspended (simple misdemeanor), first offense Possession of Controlled substance – Marijuana (serious misdemeanor) and cited for Failure to Provide Proof of Insurance. This arrest was made following a traffic stop near 120th Street and Denison Avenue.
On Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at approximately 6:10 am, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Kyle Joseph Bentley, 41, of Aurora. Bentley was charged with Driving While License Barred (aggravated misdemeanor) and Driving While License Suspended (simple misdemeanor). This arrest was made following a traffic stop near 220th Street and Racine Avenue.
On Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at approximately 10:05 am, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Lindsay Renae Rocha, 41, of Des Moines. Rocha was arrested on an active arrest warrant out of Buchanan County for Probation Violation and held on bond at the Buchanan County Jail.
On Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at approximately 10:10 am, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Dawn Elizabeth Peterson, 23, of Tripoli. Peterson was arrested on an active arrest warrant out of Buchanan County for an original charge of Driving While License Suspended (simple misdemeanor) and held on bond at the Buchanan County Jail.
On Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at approximately 11:00 pm, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Harley David Bushaw, 28, of Hazleton. Bushaw was arrested on an active arrest warrant out of Buchanan County for Probation Violation. This arrest was made in the 100 block First Street S in Hazleton.
On Wednesday, April 16, 2025 at approximately 3:40 pm, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Joseph James Meek, 46, of Independence. Meek was charged with Possession of Synthetic Urine for Defrauding Drug Urine Screening (simple misdemeanor). This arrest was made at the Buchanan County Court House in Independence.
On Thursday, April 17, 2025 at approximately 7:20 pm, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Ladonna Ann Poggenpohl, 49, of Independence. Poggenpohl was arrested on an active arrest warrant out of Buchanan County for original charges of Possession of Controlled Substance (class D felony), third degree Theft (aggravated misdemeanor), Driving While License Barred (aggravated misdemeanor), Driving While License Suspended (simple misdemeanor) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (simple misdemeanor). This arrest was made following a report of suspicious activity in the 1900 block Jamestown Avenue.
On Friday, April 18, 2025 at approximately 1:00 pm, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Kyle Deon Flowers, 30, of Cedar Rapids. Flowers was arrested on an active arrest warrant out of Buchanan County for Violation of Protection Order (simple misdemeanor) and taken into custody from the Linn County Sheriff’s Office.
On Friday, April 18, 2025 at approximately 4:00 pm, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies a 16-year-old male juvenile of Independence, charging him with Assault Causing Bodily Injury (serious misdemeanor). This juvenile was booked and released to parents/guardians, and will be referred to Juvenile Court Services in this matter.
On Friday, April 18, 2025 at approximately 6:00 pm, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Traci Marie Chamberlain, 37, of Independence. Chamberlain was arrested on an active arrest warrant out of Buchanan County for original charges of Forgery (aggravated misdemeanor) and Failure to Provide Proof of Insurance (simple misdemeanor), and held on bond at the Buchanan County Jail.
On Saturday, April 19, 2025 at approximately 3:55 am, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Ryan Patrick Rael, 20, of Oelwein. Rael was charged with first offense Operating While Intoxicated/Impaired (serious misdemeanor), first offense Possession of Controlled Substance – Marijuana (serious misdemeanor) and cited for Underage Possession of Alcohol, Underage Possession of Tobacco/Vape, Following Too Closely and Failure to Provide Proof of Insurance. This arrest was made following a traffic stop near Jamestown Avenue (Hwy 150) and Otterville Blvd.
On Saturday, April 19, 2025 at approximately 6:25 pm, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested James Keeley Reuther, 54, of Independence. Reuther was arrested on an active arrest warrant out of Buchanan County for Failure to Appear. This arrest was made in the 700 blk Eleventh Street NE in Independence.
