RURAL FAYETTE COUNTY, IOWA – A Northern Iowa man drove his Cadillac through a construction zone late one night, police say, smashing his way through a barrier, and only a large piece of excavating equipment could cease his his drunken escapade.
On April 15, 2025, at approximately 12:24 AM, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a single vehicle accident at the area of W Avenue and Highway 3. When a deputy arrived, it was learned that a vehicle drove through a barrier marking the bridge construction on Highway 3 west of W Avenue, near Oelwein. After striking the barrier, the driver then traveled on, only stopping when he struck heavy machinery.
Upon investigation, the driver was found to be impaired due to alcohol consumption prior to operating his 2014 Cadillac ATS. The driver, identified as Dillon Lee Dugan, age 24 of Oelwein, Iowa, was placed under arrest for first-offense operating while intoxicated and held at the Fayette County Jail pending initial appearance in court. He posted 10% of $1,000 bond and was released.
