WOODBURN, IOWA – A convicted Iowa felon is behind bars charged with attempted murder and other felonies and his alleged victim is in critical condition after a recent shooting.
On, December 5, 2024, at about 12:30 PM, the Clarke County Sheriff’s Office received an emergency call on 911 of a person who’d been shot with a firearm.
The 911 caller was identified as 32-year-old George William Douglas Woodburn, Iowa. Douglas was located at his residence at 3049 Pacific Street. George William Douglas (pictured below) was arrested at that time.
Officers and emergency medical teams arrived at 1066 315th Ave in rural Clarke County and found a male adult who was later identified as 35-year-old Tyler Scott Sutton of New Virginia suffering from a gun shot wound. Sutton was flown by air ambulance to Methodist Hospital in Des Moines where he is listed in critical condition.
George William Douglas was arrested and charged with the following crimes:
– Attempted Murder 707.11(1) a class B Felony
– Going Armed with Intent 708.8 a class D Felony
– Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon 724.26(1) a class D Felony
The investigation is ongoing with the assistance of the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation’s Major Crime Unit.
