Lots of people have had to switch things up recently and spend more time working from home. If you’re one of them, then you might be wondering how you can run your business more efficiently while you’re in the house.

You wouldn’t have thought it, but it can take a lot of adapting before you feel comfortable working from home, but these five tips should help:

Have a Routine

One of the big benefits of working from home is that you have more control over your schedule. However, just because you can do what you want when you want doesn’t mean you should. Routines are an important part of working efficiently and you need to be able to create ones that work for you. Each day is an opportunity to work more efficiently, so keep going until you find the routine that works for you.

Eliminate Distractions

Depending on your living situation there can be lots of distractions at home. If you’re going to get your work done more efficiently though, you need to find ways of eliminating these distractions. This isn’t always easy, but there are ways of creating a more secluded space for yourself and removing the things that distract you. A great way to do this is to use the Pomodoro Technique, and work in short, sharp bursts. This makes it much easier to work completely distraction-free and maximize your attention span.

Focus on Your Communication

Just because you’re working alone from your house doesn’t mean you can let your communication slip. In fact, you’ve got to be even more organized and make sure you’re communicating effectively with your team.

Whether you’re working in a huge business or it’s just you, you need to be able to communicate with clients, suppliers, and many others to take your business forward. Doing it from home just means you’ve got to be even more disciplined in this area.

Get the Right Software

Running a business from home has never been easier, but you need the right software to do so. Cloud technology allows you to take care of everything remotely so get yourself set up with Google cloud training. If you can work effectively with this software, then it’s going to make your business much more efficient, enabling the level of collaboration you need. It’s a basic part of making your business more agile, but there are still a lot of businesses that aren’t taking advantage of it.

Balance Work and Life

When work is at home it can be surprisingly difficult to put down. When you worked in the office you had that separation between work and life but suddenly it’s gone. This means you have to be disciplined and make sure when you stop working for the day you leave it behind. Don’t be dipping in and out of your home office and letting it take over your life.

To do your best work you’ve got to have a good work/life balance so make sure you draw a line.
