FREMONT COUNTY – A wanted Missouri man on a stolen motorcycle first tried to throw his relative under the bus before battling Iowa cops during a traffic stop, then suffered the brunt of a tazer.
On September 4, 2024 at 8:23 AM, Fremont county deputies stoped a vehicle for an equipment violation on Highway 2 near the Missouri River. The driver, 42-year-old Joshua Lee Painter of Lawson, Missouri, was a wanted man on warrants. He gave the officers a fake, name – the name of a relative in an attempt to avoid arrest. However, the relative was also wanted on warrants. Painter then resisted deputies and a struggle occurred, resulting in the deputy receiving minor injuries. Deputies deployed a taser and Painter was taken into custody. The deputy was treated by EMTs at the scene and released back to duty.
Painter was taken to Grape Community Hospital and released, then jailed on the following charges:
– Theft
– Possession of a controlled substance
– Assault on an officer
– Interference with official acts.
Deputies discovered the motorcycle Painter was operating was reported stolen. Painter (pictured at top) remains in custody, held on $15,000 cash bond.
