Arlo LeVern Hanson, 87, of Mason City, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at Good Shepherd Health Care Center. Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm March 23, 2024 Grace United Methodist Church.

Arlo LeVern Hanson, 87, of Mason City, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at Good Shepherd Health Care Center.

Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm March 23, 2024 Grace United Methodist Church, 200 14th St NW, Mason City, Iowa with Pastor Nadine Ilunga officiating.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Saturday.

Arlo was born on January 20, 1937, in rural Winnebago County to the parents of Ernest and Florence (Rhine) Hanson. Arlo was baptized and confirmed at the Faith Lutheran Church in Miller, Iowa. Eventually, his journey led him to farming with his family and later serving in the Army Reserves for two years before marrying Maralyn Kay Schultz on August 17, 1962, at the United Methodist Church in Forest City. From this union they had three children.

Throughout his life, Arlo dedicated himself to farming, alongside various other jobs in his community. However, it was his 24-year tenure at the Northwestern Cement Company that defined his professional career, culminating in a well-deserved retirement.

In his leisure time, Arlo participated in local tractor rides, and cherished moments at the North Iowa and Spencer Fairs with his daughter. His love for the outdoors extended to meticulous yard work, reflecting his diligent work ethic both on and off the farm. Known for his unwavering dedication, Arlo willingly lent a hand to others during planting and harvesting seasons. In his youth, Arlo enjoyed dancing and roller skating. It was a common occurrence that the family would travel to McGregor, Iowa, and Prairie Di Chien, Wisconsin. Arlo had a way of making others feel welcome, effortlessly turning strangers into friends within moments of meeting.

Faith remained a cornerstone of Arlo’s life as a devoted member of Grace United Methodist Church. The Church family was always a blessing to Arlo and Maralyn. Engaging in regular Bible studies and looking forward to coffee gatherings every Tuesday. Arlo’s kind presence will be remembered and missed.

Those left to cherish memories of Arlo are his children, Dale (Diane Casey) Hanson, Wayne Hanson, and Darla (Mike Espinosa) Hanson; grandchildren, Justin Hanson, and Brittany (Jesse) Germundson; great grandchildren, Storm Germundson, Marco Hanson and Declan Hanson; siblings, Carroll (Mavis) Hanson, and Joel (Brenda) Hanson; nieces and nephews, Tammy (Ron Schaefer) Hanson, Paula Vaughan, Stephanie (Michael) Roesch, Kevin (Mary) Hanson, Jeff Hanson, Bradley (Debbie) Hanson and Amy Asche; as well as numerous great nieces and nephews; and friends.

Arlo is preceded in death by his loving wife, Maralyn Hanson; both his parents, Ernest and Florence Hanson; brothers, Ronald (Donna) Hanson, and Gene Hanson; and a nephew, Todd Hanson.
