Lucy K. Steer, 93, of Greene, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 18, 2024, at the Rehabilitation Center of Allison. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 23, 2024, at St. John’s Lutheran Church – Vilmar in rural Greene. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Lucy will be laid to rest at North Vilmar Cemetery in rural Greene. Woodley Funeral Home of Greene is caring for Lucy and her family.
Lucy was born during the Great Depression on January 29, 1931, to August C. and Frieda D. (Tinnemann) Steer on a farm in section 22 Coldwater Township, Butler County, Iowa. She attended No. 5 Country School. Lucy was baptized March 8, 1931, and confirmed March 25, 1945, at St. John’s Lutheran Church – Vilmar.
Lucy liked to raise ponies and sell them as a team. She liked to fish and at one time had two ponds. Lucy enjoyed farming with her brother, Luman, and milked a large herd of cows and raised hogs. She also raised chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys and English Shepherd dogs. Lucy enjoyed growing fruits and vegetables that she shared with the family. She also loved all of her flowers, especially seeing her tulips and daffodils bloom every spring. She was a great cook and baker who loved to make meals for her family.
Lucy is survived by her niece Merlette (Dennis) Cassmann of Bristow; nephew Meredith (Linda) Steere of Greene; great nieces and nephews: Terence Cassmann of Bristow, Tiffany Cassmann of Rochester, Minnesota, Jennifer (Tony) Lessin of Charles City and their children Cameron and Madilyn, Evan (Sarah) Steere of Allison and their children Blake, Joseph, Brynn and Samuel, and Ryan (Emmalea) Steere of Greene.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Merlyn A. Steer and Luman L. Steer; and sister-in-law Clara Jane (Brocka) Steer.
