Gerald Edward Pluth (Jerry) of Estherville joined our heavenly father on Wednesday November 29th, 2023 at his home.

Gerald Edward Pluth (Jerry) of Estherville joined our heavenly father on Wednesday November 29th, 2023 at his home.

Jerry was born in Estherville on June 6th, 1940 to Urban and Irene (Smith) Pluth. He attended Gruver schools graduating in the class of 1958. After graduating, Jerry worked at Golden Sun Feeds. He grew up with his two younger siblings, Allen (Pat Ormbsy) and Joyce (Bud Schnell). Jerry was very active in 4-H growing up and bought his first heifer at the age of twelve from his Uncle Orville Smith. He continued to raise cattle until January of 2023.

On June 15th,1963 he was united in marriage to Carol Coleman. He loved her for over 60 years. In 1964 their son John was born. In the fall of 1964 they moved to Terrill, Iowa where Jerry began his farming career raising cattle and hogs. In 1967 they had their daughter Julie. They remained in Terrill until 1972 when they then moved to a farm outside of Wallingford. Jerry continued to farm in Wallingford until 1987. Then they moved to Estherville and he could not get back to the farm quick enough. In 1995, Jerry and Carol moved on to the Pluth Family Farm. He retired from farming in 2017.

Jerry was a very active father and grandfather. He enjoyed watching their cattle shows, sporting events, trips to Arnold’s Park and joking around with them. He was a lifelong member of St. Patrick’s Parish and served as chairman of the St Pat’s cemetery committee and the Knights of Columbus. Time off the farm for Jerry was spent watching cattle shows, helping with 4-H, golfing, and snowmobiling. For many years he was a member of the ELK’s Lodge and Emmet County Cattlemen.

Left to cherish Jerry’s memory is his wife Carol; Children; John (Crystal) Pluth, Julie (Joe) Heintz. Grandchildren; Kayla (Pluth) Verral, Taylor (Pluth) Sifrit, Jalen Heintz, and Jerica Heintz. Great Grandchildren; Allie, Blake, Brianne Verral, Hayden and Parker Sifrit, Sister Joyce (Pluth) and Bud Schnell along with several cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Jerry was preceded in death by his father Urban, mother Irene Pluth, brother Allen Pluth, father-in-law and mother-in-law AJ and Opal Coleman, sister-in-law Linda Coleman (Merrill) and nephew Paul Sherling.
