Three anti-LGBTQ bills under debate in Iowa Legislature, advocacy group says

DES MOINES — Three bills that will impact the rights of Iowa’s LGBTQ community are being debated currently in the Iowa Legislature, a non-profit group says.

SF297, a bill allowing broad religious exemptions from medical providers (including the ability to deny people care from protected classes), will be debated today, February 22nd, at 4 pm in room 315.

SSB1145, the governor’s education bill (which includes don’t say trans, forced outing, removal of HIV/HPV from curricula, and a statewide book ban list, among other things), will be debated tomorrow, February 23rd, at 1 pm in room 217.

SF212, a bill that will allow adoptive and foster care providers to discriminate in placement based on their religious beliefs, will also be debated on February 23rd at 10 am in room 217.

One Iowa Action is a 501(c)(4) organization working to preserve and advance the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer/questioning (LGBTQ) Iowans through grassroots efforts, voter education and advocacy.  They list and track bills in the Iowa Legislature they claim are anti-LGBTQ.
