MUSCATINE, IOWA – Three Iowans were killed and four people were hurt in a two-vehicle collision Sunday afternoon at a rural intersection.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, the accident took place Sunday, February 12, 2023, at 2:45 PM. At the intersection of Iowa Highway 38 and County Road F70, near Muscatine, Iowa, a 2019 Toyota Highlander driven by 57-year-old Louis Labanda of North Liberty, Iowa, was eastbound on F70 when it failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with a 2012 Dodge Ram, driven by 60-year-old Jorge Castaneda Andrade of Muscatine.
As a result of the crash, 47-year-old Sidonie Lubanda, 63-year-old Petronele Bolombelo, and 58-year-old Sophie Matand – all from the Iowa City area – were killed. All three were inside the Toyota. Three children inside were also hurt and taken by ambulance to University of Iowa hospitals.
Jorge Castaneda Andrade was injured and taken by ambulance to University of Iowa hospitals.
