William Dean Shafer was born April 29, 1964 in Charles City, IA the son of William Jr. and Maxine (Locke) Shafer. Growing up in Chapin, he attended Chapin High School. At an early age, Willie learned the rewards of hard work and later began roofing with Northern Cedar Construction. His daughter, Brittnie was the light and center of his life. Being a dad was his greatest accomplishment in life, that was until he had the joy of being a grandpa.

Willie enjoyed the simple pleasures of life: long nature walks, time spent on the family farm near Floyd, lighting off fireworks, bike rides with Brittnie and the boys, starting fires, and good dad jokes. His interest in classic cars always drew him to car shows and dealers, though one had yet to make it home to his driveway. Cards and board games with family always brought laughter, and a few debates on rulings. Willie always had a knack for storytelling, whether it was fact or fairytale, or a bit of both. He was wise beyond his years and did his best to share that wisdom with those around him.

Willie’s wisecracking, positive outlook on life will be missed dearly. Most of all, he loved his family, and dedicated everything he did to those he loved.

Those left to carry on his story are his daughter, Brittnie Jackson; beloved grandsons, Brenden and Kaydn; brother, Jack (Rebecca) Ebel; as well as countless nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and countless friends made along the way.
Greeting him in Heaven are his parents, step-father, Lee Ebel; brothers, Doug, Jim, and Denny; as well as aunts, uncles, and extended family members.
