MASON CITY – NIACC’s MaKenna Hanson shot a career-best round of 86 and tied for 10th Tuesday at the NIACC Spring Invitational at the Mason City Country Club.

NIACC’s Kirsten Boerjan tied for 12th with a round of 88.

“I’m very excited for MaKenna Hanson and Kirsten Boerjan with how they played (Tuesday), NIACC coach Chris Frenz said. “You can tell they are settling in to their games and have steadily improved each time out.”

Waldorf University’s Amanda Karvala and DMACC’s Ashley Micel tied for individual medalist honors with a pair of 77s.

NIACC placed fourth in the team standings with a 357. Waldorf was the team champion with a 325.

Also for NIACC Tuesday, Hailey Panos shot 91, Sophie Lunning shot 92 and Alyssa Alert shot 101. Abby Murray played as an individual and shot 91.
“This was a good day for our women’s team,” Frenz said, “now if we can get everyone playing well at the same time we might make some noise at the regional tournament.”

NIACC will compete at the NJCAA Plains Regional Tournament on April 25-26 at the Rolling Meadows Golf Course in Milford, Kan.
“This was a good tuneup for the regional tournament,” Frenz said of Tuesday’s home invitational. “With the new regional setup there will be 14 teams stretching from Iowa to Kansas to Wyoming.

“Hopefully we can get in a couple days of practice before we leave this weekend. This is has such an awful spring season weather wise but I’m really pleased with how the team has battled the elements.”

Team standings – Waldorf University 325, Iowa Lakes 337, DMACC 341, NIACC 357, Iowa Central 388.
