AMES – Iowa State’s athletic director announced this morning that fans will be allowed to attend football and basketball games even as COVID-19 continues to ravage the countryside.

A letter received Tuesday morning to fans from Iowa State Athletic Director Jamie Pollard reads:

Jamie Pollard

Dear Cyclone fans,

Coach Campbell and his team won a historic game in Austin, Texas, Friday and I could not be happier for Cyclone fans who have waited a lifetime to experience such a meaningful and impactful victory.

I am pleased to share that we are resuming our COVID attendance policies (as previously implemented) beginning with Saturday’s football game against West Virginia and basketball games Sunday vs. South Carolina (women) and DePaul (men).

The decision to allow fans to return to our venues was made after thorough discussion with university leaders after reviews of state and local COVID positivity trends and hospitalization rates.
Safety continues to remain our priority, and thus, it is critical for all fans attending our games to be diligent in following our mitigation measures. We have had great compliance to our policies all season and are confident you will continue to do your part.

We will continue to monitor local COVID cases closely and adjust our plans accordingly if warranted.

Go Cyclones!

Sincerely,

Jamie Pollard
Director of Athletics

The University’s virus attendance policies allows about 15,000 fans at Jack Trice Stadium and around 1,300 fans at Hilton Coliseum.

Over 2,400 Iowns have died from COVID-19 this year. Hospitals continue to struggle with infected persons needing care.

There is a chance they could win the biggest bowl game in school history. So they are going for it at all costs. If basketball’s March Madness is cancelled the revenue that comes from it will hit the whole athletic system like a giant shock wave. Pro football’s playoff’s could be played in a bubble like NBA did. And it will be by the the beginning of the 2021 fall school session that all will be vaccinated more or less. Summer shots are a long way off for most people. Of course, by then Wally Street will be at 70,000. No, these people are getting slammed hard in the coming year so whatever numbers they throw up are a sham. Phony baloney. Pensions will be coming back as will be unions in 36 months. 401k…toast!
