CEDAR RAPIDS – A Waterloo man has been convicted of federal gun charges after police found him in possession of a sawed-off shotgun earlier in 2013.

Patrelle Jose Green-Bowman, age 21, was originally charged in Iowa courts with a range of gun charges before the charges were dropped and he was instead charged in federal court with possession of a firearm as a felon.

Records show that Bowman is now in custody of law enforcement after being convicted in December. He will be sentenced at a later date.

According to police, on August 2, 2013 at about 11:08 PM, officers with the Waterloo Police Department’s Violent Crime Apprehension team were conducting foot patrol in the parking lot of an apartment complex located at 65 Conger St. At that time Officers observed several subjects in the parking lot along with a subject sitting in the backseat of a vehicle. Officers recognized the subject in the backseat as twenty-year-old Patrelle Jose Green-Bowman of Waterloo.

Green-Bowman exited the vehicle and began walking away from the vehicle as Officers approached. As Officers neared the vehicle, they observed a sawed-off shotgun in plain view in the backseat where Green-Bowman was sitting. Officers then took Green-Bowman into custody. During the investigation Officers determined the shotgun was loaded and the modified barrel was classified the firearm as an offensive weapon.
