Trump signs bill pumping $19.5 billion into NASA

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. will try to get to Mars as President Donald Trump signed a bill pumping over $19 billion into NASA.

President Trump‏ said Tuesday afternoon he is “honored to sign” the new legislation today.

“With this legislation, we support NASA’s scientists, engineers, and astronauts in their pursuit of discovery!”

Senator Ted Cruz [R-TX] introduced the bill this year. It states “The key U.S. objectives for human expansion into space shall include achieving human exploration of Mars and beyond through the prioritization of those technologies and capabilities best suited for such a mission in accordance with the stepping stone approach to exploration specified in federal law.”

Known as the NASA Transition Authorization Act, the legislation allots NASA $19.5 billion in funding for fiscal year 2018 and aims to put humans on Mars by the 2030’s.
