On Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at approximately 2:30 AM, Waterloo Police and Waterloo Fire Rescue were sent to 1109 Sycamore on report of a person injured with blood all over the place.

Officers found that the victim, Eddie Barnes, age 43, of 1109 Sycamore, Apartment D, Waterloo, had been stabbed in the head, neck and back. Investigators spoke with witnesses and learned that Barnes had been in a fight earlier in the evening with a subject and that subject later returned with a knife and stabbed Barnes.

The subject left the scene, but was arrested a short time later on Lafayette Street. The knife used in the stabbing was also recovered. Arrested was Herald Daniel Smith, age 50, of 910 Randolph Street, Waterloo. He is charged with Willful Injury and Going Armed with intent.

Barnes is currently being treated for his injuries at a local hospital.
