MASON CITY – A Mason City dad who let his son go to a carnival with a convicted sex offender has been sent to prison.
Brandon Kale Woodside, age 36, was arrested on the evening of May 27, at about 6:52 PM. An officer observed Kale’s 6-year-old son being supervised by a convicted sex offender near Washington Avenue and 1st Street NW – the general location of the downtown carnival that was underway for Band Fest week.
Police tell NIT that Woodside is accused of allowing his boy to go with Elizabeth Howard, unsupervised indefinitely. Woodside allegedly knew that Howard is a registered sex offender yet still allowed Howard unsupervised access to his child. Woodside was arrested in the same general vicinity on a charge of Child Endangerment, an aggravated misdemeanor.
Howard, who is listed as homeless, was convicted in 2011 in Grundy county of Lascivious acts with a child. The victim was a male juvenile, 14 – 17 in age.
As a result of the charge, Woodside entered a guilty plea. He was sentenced today to 2 years in prison with a suspended fine. He is now in the county jail, awaiting transport to an Iowa prison.
