MASON CITY – A Clear Lake man was stopped for drunk driving in Mason City, driving the wrong way on a street with an open container of alcohol.
A Mason City police officer stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation on June 6 around 11:31 PM at the 500 block of South Jefferson Avenue. Jeffrey Allen Zimmer, age 62 of Clear Lake, was allegedly traveling the wrong way on the street. During the traffic stop, the officer seems to have discovered that Zimmer had an open container of alcohol and was under the influence.
Zimmer was arrested and taken to the county jail. A breath alcohol test was administered by the arresting officer on a male subject, and the results were 0.227 and 0.227, over three times the legal limit. Zimmer was charged with first-offense operating while intoxicated, open container of alcohol, and traveling the wrong way on a road. He was soon released from jail with a court date set for June 24.
