Cops chase Iowa mail thief suspects just trying to live the good life

NEWTON, IOWA - After Iowa residents began to report their mail was missing, cops honed in on a face-tatted fella and his forbidden girlfriend who allegedly were on a shopping spree using stolen checks and credit cards.

NEWTON, IOWA – After Iowa residents began to report their mail was missing, cops honed in on a face-tatted fella and his forbidden girlfriend who allegedly were on a shopping spree using stolen checks and credit cards.

In early January 2025, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office began to receive reports regarding the theft of mail from rural Newton residences. As a result of the theft of mail, victims reported that credit cards and checks were being used at various banks and businesses. An investigation was able to identify a male suspect and a female suspect, and vehicles used.

On January 21st, 2025, a Jasper County Deputy observed the male suspect and female suspect in a vehicle at a Newton Apt. Complex and stopped to speak with them. The male suspect took off on foot in attempt to get away from the deputy. The deputy detained the female and followed the male suspect to an apartment where he was taken into custody. A search warrant was conducted on the apartment associated with the male and female. Two vehicles were also seized pending search warrants.

As a result of this investigation, John Davis, age 32, and Lauren Parkison, age 30, both of Newton, were arrested with the following charges:

Forgery x1 – Class D Felony
Interference – Simple Misdemeanor
Poss Controlled Substance – Serious Misdemeanor
Poss of Marijuana x2 – Serious Misdemeanor
Poss of Drug Paraphernalia – Simple Misdemeanor
False ID – Simple Misdemeanor
