MASON CITY – Beginning Monday, April 13, the Mason City Public Library joins libraries nationwide in celebrating National Library Week. First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April.

Libraries today are more than warehouses for books. Libraries are doing their part to close the digital divide and level the playing field by providing free access to information and technologies that many in their communities would be hard pressed to find elsewhere.  Libraries help to ensure the American dream and promote democracy by providing service to all regardless of race, ethnicity, creed, age, ability, sexual orientation, gender identity or socio-economic status.

The Mason City Public Library will host two author events during National Library Week in the Elizabeth Muse Norris Classroom:

  • At 6:30pm on Tuesday, April 14, 2015, Carol Bodensteiner, author of the new fiction work, Go Away Home, will discuss her book and offer signed copies for purchase.
  • At 2pm on Saturday, April 18th, former Mason City resident, Paul Hamilton will discuss his book, Go Ahead, Create, in which he refers to his youth in Mason City.
  • Audience members can register to win a free copy of the authors’ books, which will be awarded at the end of each event.

The library will be closed on Thursday, April 16th so that staff may attend a training session offered by the North Central Iowa Library Services District.

For more information, visit the Mason City Public Library at 225 2nd St SE, Mason City, phone 641.421.3668.
