Police identify male suspect who stole car from Mason City convenience store

Male suspect
MASON CITY – Police are piecing together clues in a car theft investigation that began Monday when a male suspect stole a vehicle from a Mason City convenience store.

Yesterday, as NIT reported, a car was stolen from a convenience store and later abandoned in Mason City. The Mason City Police Department sent out a media release yesterday afternoon requesting the public’s help in identifying the 2 adults from surveillance footage prior to the male allegedly taking the car without the owner’s consent. Numerous tips and information came in. We want to thank all the people who have assisted.

Here’s is what police have pieced together so far: The two adults appear to be from Kansas and passing through north Iowa to parts unknown. They are believed to be visiting friends and relatives here. The two are believed to be driving a white over tan (2 tone), older Jeep Grand Cherokee with either stolen or fraudulently-displayed license plates from KS or CO displayed. Charges are pending on the male subject at this time.

The case is still under investigation.
