MASON CITY – The Blue Zones will now be getting more involved in traffic and transportation issues, as a commission connected to that program with members selected by the mayor is being formed in Mason City.
Blue Zones Project volunteers formed a workgroup to discuss and develop an Active Living and Transportation Commission. The commission supports Mason City’s progress toward becoming a Blue Zones Community and the efforts to improve livability and future active-living opportunities.
The recommendation will be presented to the mayor and city council at their Feb. 16 meeting. If approved, the commission will have five members appointed by the mayor. Interested members can apply through the City’s website.
This month, Mason City’s Blue Zone signaled its involvement in transportation and traffic issues in town, saying an “enraged mother” is “best” at “enforcement” when people don’t follow traffic laws. This response by the Blue Zone was directed at Councilman John Lee’s wife, who was apparently “enraged” by a bad driver:

This is more special interest Bull Crap. they have no business making any decisions on how our tax money is spent. We already pay people to make those decisions. Our damn taxes property taxes are going up because of this crap and our services are going down.
