MASON CITY – Friday night at about 10:09 PM, Mason City police responded to a “report of a large group of people assembling with baseball bats.”
The incident unfolded near the corner of North Monroe Avenue and 1st Street NW.
Police were able to locate “several people” but no assault had yet occurred.
The subjects were advised by police that “any further incident would lead to charges.”
Police said Saturday that a 17 year-old minor was arrested.

Oh my gosh ….it’s all over mason if read all the blogs ..YMCA is not in the north end ? …people are reading more blogging which is normal in this day and age ….and back in the Early 70’s there was always a few names in the news …and we thought it was bad then …no way compared to what is happening now !! This violence has just been in the past few years …Time to weed out the bad ! Which includes the court system …Have city pay for more part time cops ,instead statues …your voice needs to be heard at the council meetings … Have a town hall meeting? There has to be an answer …Mason city is losing to many people to larger cities where jobs are more abundant… all the young people are migrated elsewhere after college ….

North or South, there’s good and bad people all over town. Some people pick on the north end to get a raise out of them. Rise above that. And why are there so many angry people wanting to fight? Even the young people walking the streets have a depressed look and are wanting to cause trouble and fight. You can go for a drive in the evening and expect to have some young people cross the street in front of you somewhere, daring you to hit them and making you stop. I don’t get it, is it the way there brought up? What are they mad about? And what to do about it. Take there pictures and call the cops? I don’t have the answers. I have asked city councel members for a curfew for years but they don’t want to do that. I have asked that the ones who get in trouble be given community work to pay for there costs in jail, was told the city would be libel if they got hurt. So what,start a chain gang. Something has to be done before things get better.
