Garner library project scores $310K from state

GARNER, IOWA – The Garner library will get state funding to assist in a renovation project.

On January 13, 2016, The Vision Iowa Board approved $778,601 in Community Attraction and Tourism (CAT) grants to the Iowa Quilt Museum in Winterset, Dragoon Trace Nature Center in Ringgold County, an aquatic center in Lake City, a splash pad in Bristol, sports complexes in Dike and Carroll and the Garner Public Library.

The Garner Public Library Renovation and Expansion Project includes the renovation of the interior and exterior of the current library building as well as a 1,834 square foot addition to the south and east sides of the building. Renovations includes installing energy efficient lighting, a drive-up book drop, multi-media and video conferencing equipment; remodeled staff areas, bathrooms and meeting rooms; expanded community kitchenette and opening up the floor plan of the main library area.

Total project cost is estimated at $1,556,500. Garner requested $310,000 and was awarded $310,000. The financial award is contingent on completion of fundraising within 30 days.
