Charles City man faces felony charge after fleeing crime scene

CHARLES CITY – An allegedly intoxicated man got into a car and fled a crime scene investigation this past weekend in Charles City, leading to a swath of charges against him.

On April 17 just before midnight, Charles City police were called to respond to an assault in progress at an apartment complex in the 600 block of 11th Street. Upon arrival, 26-year-ol Lavonte Lashon Starr attempted to flee in a car. Police said he drove off the street and into a grass lot, striking a fence. He was then subdued and taken to the county jail.

Starr is now charged with first degree criminal mischief (a felony), assault on a peace officer, first offense drunk driving, interference with official acts, disorderly conduct, no headlights, no driver’s license, driving on the wrong side of the road and no seat belt. He was released from jail the next day and was due in court Wednesday morning.
