DES MOINES – Grand View wrestler Isaiah Tatum, a former NIACC all-American, was hospitalized Sunday night after being involved in a car wreck, according to a report in the Des Moines Register.
Tatum and teammate Chad Lowman were on their way back to Des Moines after watching the Iowa/Iowa State wrestling meet in Ames.
Grand View wrestling coach Nick Mitchell told the Register in a text message that Tatum was “in ICU and is stable” and Lowman was “being held (Sunday) night for observation and is expected to be released (Monday).”
Tatum, who placed fourth at the 2012 NJCAA meet at 165 pounds, was the NAIA national runner-up last season for the Vikings. Tatum (Galesburg, Ill.) was ranked No. 1 at 149 pounds in the preseason NAIA rankings.
Lowman won a national title for the Vikings last year at 157 pounds and was ranked No. 1 to start the 2013-14 season.
