MASON CITY -If you are used to picking up tax forms at the Mason City library, you will have to seek other sources, as the library announced today that IRS budget cuts won;t allow them to carry many forms this year.

In the past, the Mason City Public Library has been proud to provide Federal tax forms, instruction booklets and publications for residents of North Iowa to use when filing their taxes.

These were provided to the library free of charge through the IRS Tax Forms Outlet Program (TFOP) as a public service to the community.

tax-return-prepWe have just received communication from the TFOP Administrator informing us that since there was a significant cut in the IRS budget due to the 2015 Omnibus Appropriations bill recently passed by Congress, they will NOT be able to provide us with the range or number of forms they have provided in the past. As a result of this change, the Mason City Public Library will have on hand only a limited number of 1040, 1040A, and 1040EZ forms to hand out to the public. THERE WILL BE NO INSTRUCTION BOOKLETS AVAILABLE.

We will, as in the past, help patrons to print forms at a charge of $.20 per page. Because of the length of the instruction booklets, we will not be able to print these items. We also hope to have a reproducible booklet of all the forms, instructions and publications so patrons can make copies at the library for $.20 per page.

The public is also encouraged to use the following choices to obtain the forms and instruction booklets they need:

  • IRS.gov/Forms – to view and download forms, instructions and publications
  • IRS.gov/orderforms – to order tax products to be delivered by mail
  • 1-800-829-3676 – to order tax products to be delivered by mail

As a reminder, the Iowa Department of Revenue (IDR) no longer automatically mails paper income tax forms and instruction booklets to individuals. You may visit the IDR website to view or print forms or view electronic options at: https://tax.iowa.gov/forms

MCPL staff will have a booklet with Iowa paper forms and instructions to print for $.20 per page.

The library will also have handouts with the above information for patrons to take with them.

With the changes in this year’s Tax Form Outlet Program and the uncertainty of future offerings, the Mason City Public Library will no longer participate in TFOP beginning in January of 2016.

Staff, as in the past, will assist patrons with printing forms from the tax websites.

You may contact the library at 641.421.3668 or email librarian@mcpl.org with questions.
