Cops tap jail phone to help build drug dealing case against brothers

FAYETTE COUNTY – Law enforcement in Fayette county recorded phone calls of jail inmates to help bolster a case against two accused drug dealers.

On December 19, after a month long investigation, charges were filed on Alexander C. Jans, age 24 and Adam P. Jans, age 33, both of West Union, Iowa. The Jans brothers were under investigation for running a criminal network that consisted of the possession and sale of illegal controlled substances.

Law enforcement disclosed that while Alexander Jans was in custody at the Fayette County Jail, investigators recorded several calls between him and Adam Jans where the two conspired to take property, money, official documents, and forge them for financial gain. Also recorded were conversations to tamper with witnesses and the collection of unpaid transactions of drug sales.

Adam Jans was arrested on December 20 on a warrant for ongoing criminal conduct, a class B felony. He is being held on a $50,000 cash bond. He was bonded out of jail after posting the $50,000 cash bond and will appear in court on a later date.

Alexander Jans was charged on December 22 with the ongoing criminal conduct, however, he remains in custody at the Fayette County Jail on $300,000 cash bond for drug related crimes.

As a result of this case, the Sheriff’s Office has seized large amounts of cash, vehicles and illegal controlled substances.

If convicted, both could serve up to 50 years in prison.
