MASON CITY – The Board of Directors of PFLAG North Iowa has established the PFLAG North Iowa Craig W. Hickok Memorial Scholarship Fund. This fund has been established to acknowledge Craig’s life-long commitment to inclusion, education, support and equality in creating appropriate educational settings that are safe and individualized to meet student needs.
As one who loved and supported young people, Craig was a passionate supporter of the arts, including the musical, theatrical and visual arts efforts of students. Craig was involved as well in social justice issues including racial equality, women’s rights and support of the LGBT community as an activist ally.
The PFLAG Board of Directors will be formulating a mission statement for the administration of this fund over the next several months. The currently stated goal is to receive applications in January, select the recipient/s in March and announce the Scholarship Winner in April.
Local Chapter President Randy Black said, “this PFLAG Scholarship Fund will be a great addition to the community’s resources. It will serve to enable the youth of our community to reach and attain their educational goals”.
