Rudd woman who abandoned dependent persons gets deferred judgement, probation, fines

MASON CITY – A Rudd woman was sentenced Monday to probation and nearly three thousand dollars in fines and court fees for abandoning people that depended on her care at an assisted living complex in Mason City last April.

Written guilty pleas were entered on May 19th for felony neglect, serious misdemeanor neglect and third degree theft in a case against 54-year-old Debra Ihrig. She had been arrested by Cerro Gordo deputies on April 6th, 2014 after she abandoned the residents that she was hired to supervise at Country Meadow Place Assisted Living, located at 17396 Kingbird Avenue in Mason City.

On Monday, Ihrig was given a deferred judgement, four years of probation, and a suspended one year jail sentence on a felony C charge of neglect or abandonment.

Ihrig was sentenced to a one year suspended jail sentence, one year of probation and a $315 fine on a charge of wanton neglect.

On a charge of third degree theft, Ihrig was sentenced to a deferred judgment with two years of probation and a $625 fine.

In total, Ihrig owes $2,937.75 in fines and court fees. Records show she has so far failed to complete a substance abuse evaluation at Prairie Ridge addiction center. Thirteen other charges were dismissed against Ihrig.
